Satur-deja vu

Have I seen this before? I’ve been struggling with a name for our weekend review post and was somewhat resigned to the fact that Saturday Doubletake was as good as it was going to get. My wife suggested Deja vu a couple of weeks ago and last night I combined the two words together: Satur-deja vu. I think it’s clever, imaginative, and combines the carefree relaxed nature of Saturday afternoon with the French expression deja vu which literally means “already seen.” Teresa loved it and no one else has given me any input or suggestions up to this point. So let’s reflect on the week that was, wrap up any unfinished business, and maybe throw in a fun bit or two.

Broken Pieces

God uses things that are small, weak and broken. I’ve said that many times so you may have heard it in a sermon, lesson or read it here. Every person in the Bible that does anything for God was flawed in some way, perhaps fatally so. Abraham believed God and God counted it to him as righteousness; but he still lied, twice, about Sara not being his wife. David was a man after God’s own heart but committed not only adultery but murder in an attempt to cover up the previous violation. Noah got drunk and naked, Lot was comfortable surrounded by sin, Samson was a pompous jerk and so forth. Continue reading

News Notes: Changes at Planned Parenthood

Screenshot 2019-07-11 at 7.50.56 PMThere are stories in the news from time to time that either affect Christians directly or that we should at least be paying attention to. The Master’s Table does not post on American politics. Our goal here it to be God honoring and Christ centered. Abortion is a morality issue and one that many struggle with. No matter your political affiliation, or even if you have none at all, this time in our history is seeing a lot of change in the way abortion is regarded. New York has recently passed the most liberal abortion law in the country while states like Georgia, Alabama and others seek to eliminate not only late term abortions but virtually all procedures after the first six weeks. And now this: Continue reading

I’ll Never Get It

Screenshot 2019-07-15 at 3.53.22 PM
Shame on me for writing an ambiguous title. I’ll never get why Happy Monday post #125 is the most viewed of all time would have been a bit long. But seriously what is up with that? Continue reading

Advertisements

Screenshot 2019-07-15 at 3.09.16 PMThe Master’s Table is not monetized and we do not run any ads whatsoever. I have inserted a disclaimer a time or two at the bottom of Happy Monday that states any ads seen were not placed by Mast Tab nor do we receive revenue from such. This blog is hosted by WordPress for free and they occasionally, as I understand it, run ads which is how they make their money. Continue reading

Happy Monday

So if you’re an internet user (and there is no print version of Happy Monday that comes in a mailer) you’ve probably heard about a movement to storm Area 51. “They can’t stop all of us.” Some ridiculous number of people around 600,000 or so have signed up to storm Area 51… at 3 am on Friday, September 20th. Even if there were something to see at Area 51, posting the date and time of a raid to social media might tip their hand.

The truth is out there.

This is Happy Monday #332.  Continue reading

Doubletake

Screenshot 2019-07-01 at 8.02.19 AMHappy Monday got a headnod from the Wednesday Connect post on Thinking Out Loud for being the best one he’s seen in a while. The music theme was apparent but unintentional; we noticed but didn’t say anything. BTW, I link Wednesday Connect each week on The Master’s Table Facebook page and my personal Twitter feed so if you’re not following Paul Wilkinson you might want to at least check it out.

A couple of items in the news this week; the new round of tariffs potentially affecting Bible prices was covered by several sources, graves being opened at the Vatican perhaps not so much. Continue reading

News Notes: Chinese Bibles and Empty Tombs

Screenshot 2019-07-11 at 7.50.56 PMI thought about writing a post yesterday on the possible Bible shortage. Sometimes with news events, though, I figure everyone has the same access to television newscasts and articles on the internet that I do. But life is busy and sometimes I miss some pretty big headlines myself. So here’s a couple of things you may or may not have heard about. Continue reading

Happy Monday

Screenshot 2019-07-01 at 8.02.19 AM

Most of our readers are in the United States so we hope you had a happy and safe 4th. If you are going back to work today after a full week off that’s a total of nine days in a row… yikes! I don’t know if a blog post is gonna help but we’ll give it the old college try.

This is Happy Monday #331 Continue reading

Saturday Doubletake

On the weekend we like to review the past week, make sure we didn’t miss anything, tie up some loose ends. We haven’t settled on a title but my wife has suggested deja vu, which literally translates to “already seen.” That makes sense but it’s just so French. The floor is still open for nominations.

  • Happy Monday was filled with coffee memes, verses of scripture, inspiring quotes and funny cartoons, per the usual. In honor of law enforcement everywhere who put in long hours and did not take any vacation days this week we are pleased to share this story again:
