Gordon County Hunger Walk raised over $4,000 to be divided among four local food banks. We consider it a tremendous success and hope to go bigger next year. Here are some other bits you may or may not have seen this week:

Plainville Unity Baptist donated this gavel to our local Baptist association back in the 50’s. It’s made from the original podium that Unity used for 73 years. As pastor of Unity and moderator for the association’s annual meeting this year, I got to bang the Unity gavel. I may be the only person on earth that thinks that’s cool but here’s more history for those interested.

The St. Louis Cardinals scored a record setting 10 runs in the first inning versus the Atl. Braves before winning game 5 of their NLDS 13 – 1. 10 runs is the most ever scored during a single inning of post-season play and tied for the most runs ever scored in a single inning of an MLB game. The Washington Nationals lead the Cardinals 1 – 0 in the NLCS in a bid to see which team will lose the World Series to the Yankees in two weeks.
This week on The Master’s Table: I thought Happy Monday was good. Drop in weekly for a dose of scripture, inspiration, fun things, coffee memes and cute animals. We can’t make it not Monday but it does help. God is Willing and Able and Lessons from Noah and Lot are devotions based on 2 Peter 2.
Shepard Smith says he’s not retiring but has not said or perhaps is not allowed to say what he will be doing next. Smith, 55, has been with Fox News since its beginning in 1996. In a day and age when the political climate has become acrid and news networks are well known for their bias, Smith believes the integrity of journalism will survive.

The weather in the southeast has dropped out of the 90’s and assumed a more traditional autumn pattern. It is certainly dry but lows in the 50’s with highs in the 70’s are a welcome change. Denver, CO meanwhile went from 83 degrees to snowing in only eight hours and a blizzard has hit the Dakota’s. 100,000 have fled LA amid spreading wildfire and PG&E has cut power to thousands of customers in California to prevent starting more fires. Expect rain only if you live in that narrow green band in the center of the country.

With the Braves eliminated from postseason advancement I will shift my aspirations to the Georgia Bulldogs. They play South Carolina today at noon. I’m about to start making Brunswick stew for a family reunion also this afternoon and then cook the family breakfast. They should start getting up by then. I will preach a second sermon from 2 Peter 2 in the morning and that will put us halfway through the epistle. Check in with Van Til on Monday morning for fun things like “pumpkin kitty” shown above. That’s an old one. ICanHasCheezeburger published the image but I think I actually added those speech bubbles years ago. Van Til will have new stuff for ya. Peace.
