Satur-deja Vu

Herschel Walker at Buc-ee’s in Calhoun. This was Sunday morning around 9:30 AM so I know for certain I was already at church. I start a lot of mornings at Buc-ee’s but the simple fact is that I am terrible at recognizing people. If he had spoken to me I would given him a half nod, said “Hey hey” and kept walking. When I’m out in public I rely on the people I know recognizing me and saying something. Sometimes I carry on a conversation and walk away still not knowing who I was just talking to. So that is probably why I have zero celebrity sightings to my credit. I do good to spot friends and family members.

Speaking of Championship teams from Georgia though…

I would like to see Cincinnati break into the playoffs. I believe this system is a vast improvement over the Bowl Championship Series they used to have as do most college football fans. There are plenty of fans that would like to see the current CFP expanded from four to eight teams which would add a couple of rounds of playoff games. As a Georgia fan… Atlanta just won the World Series and this is the best UGA team we’ve seen in a while. It’s hard not to say things like “This could be our year.”

Has this ever happened to you? You start reading Genesis on January the 1st and everything seems to be going great for the first few weeks. Genesis and at least the first part of Exodus are narratives which mean it’s like reading a story. There are people (characters) and stuff happens (plot). Then the story slows down and God starts talking a lot. Then by the middle of February you’re in the middle of Leviticus and your goal of reading through the Bible in one year kind of falls apart. None of us are training for the Levitical priesthood. We do not determine if white spots on the skin are leprosy or not based on whether the spot is on the skin or in the skin. We simply don’t need to know which parts to burn on the altar and which to dispose of outside the camp, nor how many turtle doves to sacrifice if a man digs a pit and someone accidentally falls into it. Sadly many people will try again next January by starting over at Genesis 1:1. Word to the wise: there are other Bible reading plans.

Who’s a good boy? This is the only dog I’m aware of with a Master’s degree besides Van Til. And rumor has it he’s just a figment of my imagination.

We promised on Monday to share the backstory of this meme. I saw it for the first time in 2019. I enjoyed it so much I put it in the church bulletin in addition to Happy Monday and my own Facebook Timeline. This version is the original from October 2018 although others have taken the idea and drawn their own art, sometimes changing the activities. Dean Stockwell passed away this week at the age of 85. He is best remembered as Al from Quantum Leap co-starring with Scott Bakula. He later appeared on Enterprise with Bakula and most recently on CSI: New Orleans… with Bakula. Before Quantum Leap he was in the 1984 movie Dune. At the age of 12 he starred in the MGM movie The Boy with Green Hair. He was in a few MGM pictures as a child actor under contract. That happens when you’re born into a family of entertainers. His father, Harry Stockwell, is the voice of Prince Charming in Disney’s Snow White. You really do learn something new everyday.

Marvel has dropped a slew of images promoting things they have coming down the pike. I Am Groot, What If…? season two and X-Men ’97 among others. Vin Diesel commented on being excited about the animated short stories but I cannot find a direct source stating he will be the voice of Groot. He will be in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special in 2022 and Volume 3 of Guardians in 2023 so, I mean, it’s gotta be him.

For those of you who care about the environment impact your toilet paper choices make.

These two posts recently appeared back-to-back in my newsfeed. Ed Stetzer is not responding to Jimmy’s post, it’s just the next one in line as a I scrolled. Christmas creep is nothing new. It didn’t just start in response to 2020. Take a look at these comments from 10 years ago.

So in the spirit of telling people what they should be doing (tongue in cheek) here is a helpful calendar to keep things straight during this busy and stressful season.
