Satur-deja Vu

Let’s start with the NFL Draft. Last Saturday the draft was still underway. When all was said and done, Georgia sent 15 players to the draft and all 15 were picked up by NFL teams! The Bulldogs 2021 Championship is worth more than bragging rights. Winning a championship is an excellent recruitment strategy as graduating high school seniors consider where to play next. It’s good for the school (proud alums make better donations, advertising revue, merchandising rights, broadcasting) and the school can afford to spend more on athletics as a result, meaning better equipment and more scholarships. The record number of players drafted by the NFL means that UGA has a lot of spots to fill but also increases their ability to do so. If you’re looking at colleges, or thinking about a transfer, the headlines about Georgia’s record number of players drafted are very attractive. First he beat Nick Saban, then won the National Championship, and now Georgia sets a new draft record. This continues to be a banner year for Kirby Smart.

Charlotte out as SBC host city. I attended the 2021 Annual Meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention. My rule for the big SBC meeting is I will go if I can drive and the last meeting was in Nashville, TN. This year’s meeting will be in Anaheim, California. You shouldn’t need my home address to know that if Nashville is driving distance Anaheim is not. I was looking forward to next year’s meeting in Charlotte, NC, but so were a lot of other people. The estimated crowd of 15,000 is more than Charlotte can handle and the decision was made this past week to relocate to New Orleans. Could I drive to New Orleans? I could drive to Anaheim but I’m not going to. I have driven to Charlotte before. It’s about 4 hours if memory serves. I will plan to attend the Georgia Baptist annual meeting this year. This will be the 200th anniversary of the Georgia Baptist Convention and that will take place in November in Augusta.

Here is your history for the week:

And your nerdy thing for the week:

I believe I can correctly identify 23 out of 26. I can do rows 2, 3 and 4 in their entirety. Let me know in the comments if you need a hint, maybe next week we’ll talk about a solution key.

Two Notes:
1) I should probably write a post about the Supreme Court and the leaked brief re: Roe v. Wade. Sometimes Deja Vu items get long in the tooth and those should have been given solos.

2) There was no iMonk Radio Podcast this week. I was thinking about it Wednesday but all of my attention turned to the National Day of Prayer.
