Hurricane Ian – There is probably no way you missed this story but it’s not over yet. The death toll in Florida stands at 33 but that number is subject to change and Ian made landfall again on Friday afternoon at Charleston, South Carolina, after regaining hurricane status. Pray for all those who have been and continue to be affected. Word of caution: only donate money through established organizations with a good reputation/history. The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army are good examples and Southern Baptists will be mobilizing their own disaster relief teams in the days and weeks ahead. Think twice about responding to online ads or texting money from your phone; know who you are dealing with. And be patient. Search and rescue is always a priority followed by restoring power and clearing roads. Cleaning up and rebuilding will go on for months to come. Rushing in too quickly will get in the way and slow down some emergency services. The news will move on in a few days to the next breaking story but Puerto Rico, Cuba, Florida and the Carolinas will still need prayer, financial and volunteer support.

Nyquil Chicken: Zero stars, do not recommend. As a matter of fact the FDA is warning people not to try this recipe, first made popular on TikTok back in 2017. One critique believes that the FDA warning will draw more attention to the trend that it would have received otherwise and make the problem worse. All the media attention this story has been given in the past week or two will probably do just that. In that case what about this very blog post? My readership tends to be conservative Christians, a little older than the typical TikTok kids, and smarter than the average bear. I’ve never heard of Godzilla Day but then again I had never heard of National Daughter Day nor National Son day until this year either. I’m not sure those things exist outside of Facebook. The adult size Happy Meal is a legitimate promotion at McDonald’s that will begin Monday, October 3rd. It will feature a Big Mac or 10 piece McNuggets, fries, drink and a throwback style McDonaldland character toy all in a box that hopeful reminds customers of their childhood. First things first. I often fill reusable K-cup style pods with our own coffee grounds for use in our Keurig machine. On two separate occasions my wife has thrown away the reusable plastic pods. “The problem with making the coffee is you haven’t had any coffee.” I cannot argue with that logic.

The what?!? The item pictured above appeared as an Amazon ad in my newsfeed this week. I clicked through to the Amazon website just to read the description because I didn’t know what I was looking at. That is an inground subwoofer that connects over Bluetooth. Have you ever heard of such? I guess if you entertain outdoors, maybe watching a flat screen on a covered patio or listening to music around a firepit, this product would be useful. But I would never have thought to search Amazon for a speaker I could bury in the backyard. This 12″ weatherproof speaker runs about $300, if anyone is interested.

Mama Cass of the Mamas and the Papas (Cass Elliot, 1941 -1974) will get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this coming Monday, October 3rd. John Sebastian and Michelle Phillips will be on hand for the posthumous award, as well as her two daughters. Cass was posthumously inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Who is that guy on the BMW motorcycle? It is a public figure that I would expect most people to recognize. This picture was taken for National Geographic in 1982.
