Last week it was 9 degrees when I got up. Today we are starting at 55 and looking for a high of 63 this afternoon. The average temperature for the month of December is 52 but it’s not uncommon to have highs in the 70’s and for the sun to make it feel warmer than it actually is.

The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl is one of two College Football Playoff semifinal games. Michigan plays TCU in the Fiesta Bowl this afternoon at 4 PM while GA – Ohio State play the late game, 8 PM, tonight on ESPN. I don’t drink, the wife is adverse to crowds, it might be raining during peak fireworks hours so this is fine. Let’s ring in the new year with a Bulldogs win over the Buckeyes and look forward to facing Michigan in the final next week. #1 and #2, undefeated vs. undefeated going head to head on January 9th.

We were expecting snow flurries or a dusting at best. Our area ending up getting 1/10″ to 1/4″ which forced the county to send out the salt and gravel trucks as roads became icy and slick. They did a lot of pretreating with brine ahead of the deep freeze which may have been overkill then the “expect nothing but flurries” produced enough accumulation they had to go back out after the fact. We never lost power or water but for many others that was not the case. And we live in Georgia, I probably don’t have to tell you what Boston looked like. A little bit of snow was enough for Johannah to build a little snowman.

Do you want to build a snowman?
We can place it on the hood.
Although he’s kind of small, just 8 inches tall,
He’s still looking pretty good.

You have to pay extra for an overweight bag, meanwhile this 747 is carrying the space shuttle. That was the joke anyway but I felt more analysis was necessary. In the first place, that 747 is not carrying any passengers or luggage. More importantly it occurs to me that the shuttle was designed as a glider. Its wings would create lift as it moves through the air, something that your heavy bag in the cargo hold would not do. Turns out this has been pretty well debated to death over the years on the internet. Short version: traveling at 250 knots the shuttle orbiter creates enough lift to basically cancel out its own weight, around 172,000 pounds. This does not apply during take off and landing and of course while sitting on the runway the 747 is bearing the full weight of the space vehicle.

Did I Do That to the Holidays was supposed to be an animated Christmas special featuring the voice talent of Jaleel White as Urkel. You can watch some crudely animated storyboard frames which includes the voice track. The image above is a screen grab from this video. So what happened? The short answer is David Zaslav. He became the president and CEO of Warner Brothers Discovery earlier this year. Generating cash became priority #1 as the company’s $50 billion debt far exceeds its market capitalization. CNN+ was axed just weeks after it launched, along with HLN and all CNN documentaries. Batgirl was canceled, Scoob: Holiday Haunt will not be released and HBO Max dropped a lot of content including over 800 episodes of Sesame Street. DC fans of course know what’s been happening to Warner Bros. DC projects. Thousands of jobs have been cut leading some to wonder when all this over what will be left. The truth is that we live in a shrinking economy and Zaslav may just be ahead of the curve as other media and entertainment giants make deep cuts and do their own shrinking in 2023. Steve Urkel didn’t do this. The pandemic followed by lingering supply chain issues, inflation and Putin’s war all mean things will continue to get worse for the foreseeable future before they get better.

The child placed this sticker on our Keurig machine. Of course every time I see this I hear
