Satur-deja Vu

April Fool’s – Today is April 1st and you gotta be careful out there folks. The image above is an old post that appeared in my Facebook Memories this morning from all the way back in 2014. The difference is that I had to click through the following warning to see what was behind it:

There was a related article linked from USA Today explaining that no evidence exists that Chick-fil-A will be selling a steak sandwich and that the post was an old April Fool’s prank. Well you’re fact-checking an old post so it is what it is. Zuckerberg forbid anyone should have fun on social media. I feel safer already.

Baseball season opened Thursday with all 30 MLB teams playing on the same day. It’s the first time since 1968 that every team played on the same day (and back then there were only 20 teams). The Braves beat the Nationals then did not play on Friday so they are undefeated at this point… with 161 games left in the season. Charlie Culberson, shown above in a Braves uniform, is back! After stints with the Rangers and Rays he is back in a Braves uniform, signing a contract to play Triple A ball in Gwinnett. He has played every position on the field except center and catcher while spending most of his time at 3rd base and shortstop. The utility infielder could easily be called up to Big League team if just about any player on the bench is injured and, let’s be honest, the Braves are frequently afflicted by injury. With Dansby Swanson gone we have an unproven man at short this year as well.

The Amplified Bible – The cars as Bible versions image you may have seen before. That’s one of mine and I shared it in a comment thread last week. Ricky Pope of Christian Nerds Unite replied with the minivan full of speakers and called it The Amplified Bible and all I could do was respect.

I mentioned Facebook Memories earlier. I rely on that feature, in addition to the extensive archive of blog posts, to supplement my own faulty memory. I have lots of pictures stored on Google Drive. Reflecting on the post shown above, Holy Week 2018 must have been epic. I might remember each of those events individually but not realize they all happened in the same week. Holy Week was filled with activities at OBI because we had chapel five days a week and twice on Sunday. The first year I pastored at Unity I had to fit all the Holy Week ideas I had into four meetings: Palm Sunday AM, PM, Wednesday Bible Study then Easter Sunday.

McDonald’s is selling Krispy Kreme at 160 restaurants in the Lexington, KY area. They must have given up on their ice cream machines completely.

What?!? Apparently the work pants, sold over a six month period of time last year, have an elastic strap at the ankles that can fall down, create a loop, and trip the person wearing them. If you have the $70 Carhartt work pants affected by the recall you can return them for a refund or show proof of purchase to get the refund and keep the pants.

Double What?!? That single sentence – We’re working to rewind your movies – is all you will see at the official Blockbuster website but their Twitter feed has been active lately. It may just be all in good fun. Blockbuster is owned by Dish Network who bought the company in 2011 for a mere $320 million. Back in 1994 – the year I graduated from high school – Blockbuster was valued at $8.4 billion. Since Dish Network owns the brand they could use the name recognition for something but probably not renting VHS tapes.

I’m not even going to ask what. I drink my coffee black but for those that like their jolt of Joe sweeter than dessert topping, maybe this is right up your alley.

History + theater + understanding of an old saying. Keep learning new things. Now how about a brain teaser?

I can identify 21 of the robots in this picture. That leaves nearly as many unidentified. Click the image to view larger, see how you do.

Last year it was Sid Bream. Tonight after the wild game supper Chadd Wright will be speaking, Chris McDaniel will be back to lead music worship. I will be preaching a Palm Sunday sermon in the morning. Had a wedding yesterday and a rare dinner date with Teresa at Olive Garden. This week has been so much better than last week for me personally so if you prayed for us, thank you. Still have a friend with a death in the family, one with her mother in the hospital, and my father-in-law is set to come home from the hospital today. God is always good. Be satl, be light, share the Gospel.
