I’m stealing this meme – Lots of people say it but they are really just using the wrong words. Every social media post has a share button. Sharing a meme doesn’t take it away from the one that posted it, it just becomes visible to more people. Sharing the Gospel doesn’t reduce the amount of Gospel that exists. The more of us that share the more people get a chance to hear and receive. (Anything could be a sermon illustration, feel free to share this one.)

Chick-fil-A Dwarf House, Rome GA, 2012 – Back then there were 11 Dwarf House locations. Today there are only five. The Rome location pictured above was torn down after 20 years of service and rebuilt as a Truett’s Chick-fil-A. The original Dwarf House location Hapeville, GA was torn down and came back as a bigger and better Dwarf House than before. I speculate that someday that will be the only one. It’s design is a combination of different Chick-fil-A styles from different eras and the entire thing is like a museum.

Celebrity Deathmatch? Tech millionaires are the new rock stars of our culture. They have become known for building experimental aircraft, launching Teslas into space, selling tickets on submersibles capable of exploring the Titanic and so forth. People with more money than they know what to do with sometimes do wacky things. Elon Musk recently tweeted that he would be up to fighting Mark Zuckerberg in a cage and Zuck couldn’t just dismiss that challenge. TMZ is not the only media outlet that reports the Italian government has greenlit a cage fight at the Roman Colosseum. Let me tell you how this plays out.

This is the ultimate expression of nerds talking a big game. Think Napoleon Dynamite claiming there was no room in his locker for his bow staff. How many Facebook threads have hosted the Naruto run debate? It’s gonna sound awesome because that’s what social media does and we’re talking about Facebook vs. Twitter going head to head in the Colosseum. But it’s gonna look like two nerds calling out superpower moves and taking a lot of swings and misses. Musk is going to make a Naruto run and Zuck will knock himself out with nunchucks. These are not mighty heros or gladiators, they are keyboard warriors. It will be more of a playground fight than a rumble in the jungle.

Hey now, you’re an All Star – The Atlanta Braves will have three players start at the All Star game in Seattle. But check this out:

Here’s the deal. I actually started writing this post a week ago. I took a break and planned to come back to it later. Something happened in the middle of the day and I wasn’t right for a while. Took a nap around lunch time – a two hour nap – and woke up with a headache. So the starting lineups is a bit of old news. We have since learned that eight ATL Braves players – the entire infield plus Acuna and two pitchers – will be going to Seattle. Eight All Stars ties the National League record although the record in the American League is nine.

In the meantime the final series before the All Star Break has Atlanta playing in Tampa Bay. It was a big deal all week that the two best teams in baseball would be facing each other but it may turn out a bit one sided. I’m not complaining but the Rays loss on Friday night made six in a row and they have lost 7 of their last 10 games. While statistically they are best teams in baseball based on win-loss records they are not both hot at the same time. I wish we could send the Braves team from the month of June to the World Series but it just does not work like that. But on Tuesday night (July 11th) it will basically be the Atlanta Braves versus the American League in the All Star Game. Looking forward to that.

Henry Cavill may be the next James Bond. The fun part is reading through the comment thread as people come untrained over the idea of a non-Brit playing Bond. But Cavill is British. He has several BBC Television credits to his name and has already played the notable, distinctly British character Sherlock Holmes. So what should really have upset you was a non-American playing Superman but that’s over, it’s too late now.

Two weeks ago I challenged readers to see how many of these actors from the 60’s and 70’s you could spot. I added the list of names several hours later in the comments but here they are for everyone that didn’t come back and check. So how’d you do?

  1. Final Thoughts: There’s a lot of baseball/Braves info in this post already but I do need to update the Charlie Culberson situation. I was pretty hard on the organization for sticking it to Charlie the way they did and maybe a lot of others were just as vocal. Whether that had anything to do with it or not, after become a free agent he then SIGNED A NEW CONTRACT WITH THE BRAVES. He is once again on the Atlanta active roster.

I wrote a post this week (yeah I know right) asking how much patriotism is too much when it comes to church. One extreme insists that having a flag of any kind in church or saying the pledge of allegiance anywhere is idolatry. The other extreme totally decks out the sanctuary in red white and blue and has the choir singing nothing but patriotic hymns for the 4th of July. As always I believe moderation is key and fall somewhere in the middle of the extremes: https://themasterstable.wordpress.com/2023/07/04/weighing-patriotism-against-idolatry/
