Canadian eh? It’s not uncommon for Canadian coins to be mixed in with ours when giving or receiving change. Most people just ignore it, if they notice at all, and carry on business as usual. I’m sure it happens more in northern states that are near the Canadian border than it does in the Deep South. A couple of days ago I noticed one quarter and two nickels amongst my change. (Technically the Canadians do not have “quarters, dimes or nickels” those are American terms. But many Canadians use those terms, referring to American and Canadian coins, because of the contact they have with our culture.) Several years ago I found a Deutsche Mark coin. That was highly unlikely, and now they have switched to the Euro.
Pay More ShoeSource? If this experiment was a success, it begs the question why Payless went out of business in 2019. Well… technically they closed the remaining 2,000 retail locations in the United States but there are still 700 physical stores internationally and you order from Payless on Amazon in the US. But if Datsun could become Nissan and Comcast could slowly rebrand itself as Xfinity over a number of years, it seems to me they should have made a run at Palessi.

Waffle House is an Atlanta based company so this distribution makes sense. Did you know that at one time you could order Chick-fil-A sandwiches at Waffle House? They became popular very quickly and the owners were afraid that chicken sandwiches would outsell waffles. Stating “We are Waffle House, not Chicken House” they called Truett Cathy and cancelled their order, telling him not to send any more chicken sandwiches. The owner of the Dwarf Grill, which sold hamburgers and steak, wasn’t sure what to do and eventually opened the first Chick-fil-A location in Greenbriar Mall. That move actually led to the creation of the mall food court but that’s another story for another time. (The time was May 20, 2023.) Waffle House and Chick-fil-A continue to serve Coca-Cola which should come as no surprise.
And finally… I have avoided writing anything political so far this election year, even after watching the debate two weeks ago. I’m not going to tell you who to vote for or even offer my opinion; but it is on the water cooler talk around the nation so I will offer this short clip from Thursday’s press conference.
