They don’t teach that in school – Every occupation will have things come up in the real world which the training program did not address. School teachers take courses in educational and developmental psychology but also know that bus monitor and lunchroom duty come with the territory. You went to school to learn the culinary arts but you may have to take a crash course in book keeping in order to pay your other employees. Just because you earned an MBA doesn’t mean you may never be called upon to unload pallets from a truck with a pallet jack. You may think that church pastors preach for an hour on Sunday morning then get paid to study the Bible 5 days a week. I hope no one thinks that but let’s be honest, some poor soul out there probably became a pastor thinking that was the job. Preaching sermons, leading Bible studies and counseling soon to be wed couples are what people see pastors doing. Sometimes, though, they are asked to break into parishioners homes (by the homeowner mind you) or take care of wildlife. Experience is the best teacher and I share some here.

Opening Ceremony – Blue, white and red are the colors of the French flag, lest you think those plumes were red, white and blue. The XXXIII Olympiad has begun in Paris. Here is a photo album of the opening ceremony. Diving, rowing and gymnastics events begin today.

The Oscar Mayer Weinermobile – one of them anyway – had a collision and overturned in Chicago this week. The one I saw back in 2020 was built like a truck but this scrappy little guy looks like he’ll be alright.

Cocaine Sharks – No, we’re not talking about a Cocaine Bear sequel, at least not yet anyway. A scientific study of how human drug use affects marine life has discovered cocaine in all 13 sharpnose sharks tested off the coast of Rio de Janerio. According to researchers, cocaine has a short half life so to find this many animals testing positive means there is a lot of the drug being trafficked through Brazil.

That is a Bundt pan for making bundt cake. It’s not just a bad caption either, I backed the video up and listened to it again. The narrator said “Bunch pan.”

I question the price of Big Mac at 50 cents each in 1980 but that’s neither here nor there. Does a Big Mac cost $8.00 where you live? A single Big Mac may indeed cost $8 on the west coast, say in Seattle, Washington. But minimum wage is not $7.25 in that state either. 34 states have a higher minimum wage than the federal minimum. The minimum in Washington is $16.28 and in California the new minimum wage for fast food workers is at least $20/hr. The chart above is misleading at best and ridiculous at worst.

It costs more than $5 but…

The highest capacity micro SD card, which is about 1/4 the size of the SD card being held above, is 1.5 TB. That’s the equivalent of one million floppy disks or enough to store 5 years of video.

Street artist Tom Bob sees the world a little differently than the rest of us but it’s okay, he’s here to help.

And finally… see if you can spot 5 differences in the images below. I thought this one might be tough at first but then it went pretty quickly. Click to embiggen.
