We finished reading Exodus yesterday. We read one chapter per day of Genesis (50 chapters) and immediately started Exodus (40 chapters) and did the same thing. It has been three months since the first Read the Bible post. We are going to take a break from the Old Testament and begin The Gospel According to Matthew tomorrow. We’re gonna go ahead and give you a new open Bible and cup of coffee image for the occasion.
I’m not making any promises but I am looking into launching Read the Bible as a legitimate podcast. There has been talk before of a podcast; I started blogging in 2008 after Michael Spencer started pod pastoring on Internet Monk Radio. Dudley Morris pitched the idea of the two of us sitting down and discussing the Satur-deja Vu topics. There are many online Bible resources including print, YouTube channels and podcasts; there is a podcast already titled Read the Bible hosted by D.A. Carson. There was a podcast titled The Master’s Table but it has not updated since 2021. We will need a title and a title card. That’s what I’ll be working on today.
Exodus bloopers – here’s 3 minutes of me forgetting how to read. Also dogs barking and thunder.
Don’t cry. You may have seen that quote from the late Phil Robertson this week. He said we could shout, we cold dance, but when we hear that Phil has left this earth not to cry. “Uncle Si” hosts a podcast, very different than Unashamed, from the Duck Call Room. He spoke very candidly and said “We tried not to cry, but we cried.”
Loretta Swit, Rick Derringer and Ed Gale have also passed this week. Swit is best known for playing Nurse Houlihan on the TV series MASH. Derringer was known for Hang On Sloopy, the guitar solo on Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors, and he produced the first six Weird Al albums. Actor Ed Gale played Chucky in the Child’s Play franchise. And I almost forgot about Chicago Mike from Kool and the Gang. He died in a car accident in Cobb County (near Atlanta) this past weekend.
Van Til posted about the Wienie 500 on the Memorial Day Happy Monday post. You can watch the full race on YouTube. It’s only 10 minutes, here’s a link. Enjoy.

Vintage Peanuts – That is the original spread that appeared in TV Guide in 1968 of the Peanuts characters with the voice actors who portrayed them. An AI enhanced image has been circulating online. You know who AI can be, poor Peter’s face looks like it’s melting into the void. Left to right that’s Sally Dryer as Lucy, Gail DeFaria as Peppermint Patty, Peter Robbins as Charlie Brown, Christopher Shea as Linus and Peanuts animator Bill Melendez as the voice of Snoopy. Pig Pen and Sally were around since nearly the beginning but other “regular” characters did not appear until later. Franklin was introduced in 1968 and although Woodstock appeared earlier he did not get the name Woodstock until 1970.
Now that is an appropriate use of AI.
It’s a good thing Atlanta has Chris Sale and Spencer Strider because it looks like AJ Smith-Shawver will be out for the rest of this season. He is officially on the 60 day IL but he has torn the UCL in his pitching elbow. He will probably miss the beginning of the 2026 season as well.
Fun with maps – The population density of NYC is nearly 30,000 per square mile so the number of skyscrapers there should not be a surprise. I wonder if any of the 18 skyscrapers in Georgia are outside the city of Atlanta.
And finally…
Turtles are cold blooded, I know that. While a crocheted toboggan hat will not make this turtle warmer it certainly makes him (or her) cuter.
