This chapter will finish the Sermon on the Mount which began in chapter 6 and runs through chapters 6 and 7. “Judge not” is a well known passag of scripture that may actually be too well known. Remove the log from your own eye, the Golden Rule, the wide vs. narrow gate and building on the rock are all in this chapter.
Matthew 7
“Do not judge, so that you will not be judged.
For with the judgment you judge, you will be judged: and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you again.
And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the log that is in your own eye?
How can you say to your brother “Let me remove the speck out of your eye; and there is a log in your own eye?
Hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye; and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Do not give what is holy to the dogs, nor throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn to tear you to pieces.
Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you:
For every one that asks receives, and the one that seeks finds; and to the one that knocks it will it be opened.
Which one of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to those who ask him?
So in all things do to others what you would have them do to you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Enter through the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there will be many who go through it:
But strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and there will be few that find it.
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorn bushes, or figs of thistles?
So every good tree bears good fruit; but a corrupt tree bears evil fruit.
A good tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a corrupt tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
So you will recognize them by their fruits.
Not every one that says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but the one that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and cast out demons in your name? and do many wonderful works in your name?
And then will I declare to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.
Whoever hears these words of mine and does them, is like a wise man who built his house on a rock:
And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for its foundation was on a rock.
Everyone that hears these words of mine, and does not do them, is like a foolish man, who built his house on the sand:
And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell: and its collapse was great.
When Jesus finished these sayings, the people were astonished at his teaching:
For he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

Here is a link to the Garey Walker Jr. sermon mentioned in today’s podcast. You can read the extensive notes, although there is no transcript available, and listen to the sermon audio

I recorded the audio. edited, pasted the biblical text into this post, embedded the audio player and the last thing I do most of the time is write a short paragraph of copy so you know what the chp/ep is about. While I was writing the “liner notes” as I call them in this episode, I added Golden Rule to the list of things Jesus teaches in Matt. 7 and realized I didn’t mention a word about it! I will say something about the Golden Rule in the Satur-deja Vu, if there is one later today, and if not on the next podcast before we go on. That’s kind of important.
