Read the Bible: Matthew 17

Peter, James and John are witnesses of the transfiguration. A voice from heaven is heard for the second time declaring Jesus. The disciples cannot cast a demon out of a child. And finally Peter is sent to make a ”’miraculous catch” of sorts. Further down the page, past the Matthew 17 text, I will drop those links I mention about Exodus 3 and 4 and add the mustard seed pic as well.

Matthew 17

And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and brought them up  a high mountain alone.

He was transfigured before them: and his face shone as the sun, and his clothing was as white as light.

Then Moses and Elijah appeared before them talking with him.

Then Peter said to Jesus “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let us make here three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

While he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”

And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.

Jesus came and touched them, and said “Get up, and do not be afraid.”

When they looked up they saw no one except Jesus.

As they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying “Tell no one about the vision, until the Son of Man is risen again from the dead.”

And his disciples asked him, saying “Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must first come?”

Jesus answered “Elijah truly shall first come, and restore all things.

But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him, but have done to him whatever they pleased. Likewise the Son of Man shall also suffer at their hands.”

Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptist.

When they came to the crowd, a certain man came to him, kneeling down before him and saying

“Lord, have mercy on my son: for he has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire, and into the water.

And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him.”

Then Jesus answered and said “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to me.”

Jesus rebuked the demon, and he departed out of him and the child was cured at that moment.

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said “Why could we not cast him out?”

And Jesus said unto them “Because of your unbelief; for truly I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain ‘Move from here to there” and it will move, and nothing shall be impossible for you.

However this kind never comes out except by prayer and fasting.”

While they met together in Galilee, Jesus said to them “The Son of Man shall be betrayed into the hands of men;

And they will kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again.” And they were greatly distressed.

When they came to Capernaum, they that those that collected the two drachma tax came to Peter and said “Does your master not pay the temple tax?”

He said “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? Who do the kings of the earth take tribute or taxes from? From their own children, or strangers?”

Peter said to him “From strangers.” Jesus said “Then are the children free.”

However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth you will find a coin: that take, and give to them for you  and me.
