Jesus tells his disciples what to look for at the end times. Do not be deceived by anyone claiming to be the Christ, nor by those who say “Look! He is here” or “over there.”
Matthew 24
Jesus went out from the temple: and his disciples came to show him the buildings of the temple.
Jesus said to them “So you see all these things? Truly I say to you, one stone will not be left upon another that is not thrown down.”
As he sat on the mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying “Tell us when these things will be? And what shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world?”
And Jesus answered and said to them “Be careful that no one deceives you.
For many will come in my name, saying ‘I am the Christ’ and will deceive many.
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled, for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
All these are the beginning of the birth pains.
Then will they deliver you up for persecution, and will kill you: you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake.
Then many will fall away, and betray one another, and hate one another.
Many false prophets will rise and deceive many.
Because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
But he that endures to the end will be saved.
This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world for a witness to all nations; and then the end will come.
When you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by the prophet Daniel, stand in the holy place,” (let the reader understand:)
“Then those who are in Judaea must flee to the mountains.
Let him who is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house:
Do not let one in the field return back to take his clothes.
Woe to those who are with child, and to mothers that nurse in those days!
Pray that when you flee it is not in the winter, nor on the sabbath day:
For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world to this time, nor will ever be again.
If those days were not cut short, there would be no survivors: but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.
Then if any man says to you ‘Look, here is Christ,’ or ‘He is there’ do not believe it.
For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders; so that, if it were possible, they would deceive the very elect.
See now, I have told you ahead of time.
So If they say to you ‘Look, he is in the desert;’ do not go out; ‘Look, he is in the inner room’ do not believe it..
For as the lightning comes from the east, and shines as far as the west; so also the coming of the Son of Man will be.
For wherever the corpse is, there the vultures gather.
Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven; and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.
Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky and all the peoples of the earth will mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
He will send his angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Now learn the parable of the fig tree: When its branch is tender, and putts out leaves, you know that summer is near.
So likewise, when you shall see all these things, know that he is near, even at the door.
Truly I say to you, This generation shall not pass until all of these things are fulfilled.
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words will not pass away.
But concerning that day and hour no man knows, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
As the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
For as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,
And the did not know until the flood came, and swept them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
Two will be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Two women will be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Therefore keep watch: for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.
But know this, that if the good man of the house had known what time the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
Therefore you must also be ready: for the Son of Man is coming at hour you do not expect.
Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household, to give them food at the proper time?
Blessed is that servant, whom his lord will find so doing when he comes.
Truly I say to you, he will make him ruler over all his goods.
But if that evil servant says in his heart ‘My lord delays his coming;’
And begin to beat his fellow servants, and eats and drinks with drunkards;
The lord of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
And will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the hypocrites: there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
