We are going to keep switching back and forth between Old and New Testament books as we read through the Bible. Most of the Bible is Old Testament and while it is all valuable, you may find parts of it more useful than others. I offer a lot of discussion about Leviticus in general but have very little say about this chapter in particular after the reading.
Here is a link to the Exodus episodes on The Master’s Table, before we were on Spotify, Amazon Music, Audible and iHeart Radio. You should be able to find the Genesis posts once you’re on the website.
Leviticus 1
The LORD called Moses, and spoke to him out of the tent of meeting, saying:
“Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, ‘If any one of you brings an offering to the LORD, you shall bring your offering of the livestock, either from the herd or from the flock.
If the offering is a burnt sacrifice of the herd, you shall offer a male without blemish: it shall be offered voluntarily at the door of the tent of meeting before the LORD.
He shall put his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.
He shall kill the bull before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood around the altar that is by the door of the tent of meeting.
He shall skin the burnt offering and cut it into his pieces.
The sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar, and lay the wood in order on the fire:
And the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is on the altar:
He must wash the entrails and legs with water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
And if his offering is from the flocks, namely, of the sheep, or of the goats, he shall bring it a male without blemish.
And kill it on the side of the altar northward before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall sprinkle its blood around the altar.
He shall cut it into his pieces, with his head and his fat: and the priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which is on the altar:
But he shall wash the entrails and the legs with water: and the priest shall bring it all, and burn it on the altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
If the burnt offering to the Lord is of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons.
And the priest shall bring it to the altar, and wring off his head, and burn it on the altar; and the blood of it shall be wrung out at the side of the altar:
And he shall remove its craw with its feathers, and cast it beside the altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes:
He shall tear it open by the wings but shall not split it into: and the priest shall burn it on the altar, upon the wood that is on the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor to the Lord.”
