Read the Bible: Leviticus 8

In this chapter, Aaron and his sons are be dressed in the priestly garments described in Exodus 28 and then skillfully made in Exodus 39. Here is a link to the Exodus 28 post that included images you may find helpful. After being sanctified by anointing oil and the blood of sacrifice, the priests are ordained for seven days and ready to serve in God’s tabernacle.

Leviticus 8

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

“Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and a bull for the sin offering, and two rams, and a basket of unleavened bread;

And gather all the congregation together at the door of the tent of meeting.”

Moses did as the LORD commanded; and the assembly was gathered together at the door of the tent of meeting.

Moses said to the congregation “This is what the LORD commanded to be done.”

And Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water.

And he put the tunic on him, and tied the sash around his waist, and clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod on him, and he put the woven band of the ephod around him, and fastened it to him.

He put the breastplate on him, and he put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastplate.

He put the turban on his head; and on the front of the turban he put the golden plate, the holy crown; as the LORD commanded Moses.

Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and sanctified them.

And he sprinkled it on the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all its vessels, both the basin and its stand, to sanctify them.

He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head, and anointed him, to sanctify him.

Moses brought Aaron’s sons, and put coats on them, and sashes, and put headbands on them; as the LORD commanded.

He presented the bull for the sin offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull for the sin offering.

And he slaughtered it; and Moses took the blood, and put it on the horns of the altar all around with his finger, and purified the altar, and poured the blood at the bottom of the altar, and sanctified it, to make atonement for it.

He took all the fat that was on the entrails, and the long lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys, and their fat, and Moses burned it on the altar.

But the bull, and his hide, his flesh, and his dung, he burned with fire outside the camp; as the LORD commanded.

He presented the ram for the burnt offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram.

And he killed it; and Moses sprinkled the blood on all sides of the altar.

He cut the ram into pieces; and Moses burned the head, and the pieces, and the fat.

And he washed the entrails and shanks in water,  and burned the whole ram on the altar: it was a burnt sacrifice for a pleasing aroma, and an offering made by fire to the LORD; as the LORD commanded.

Then he presented the other ram, the ram of consecration: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram.

And he slaughtered it; and Moses took some of the blood and put it on the tip of Aaron’s right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the great toe of his right foot.

He presented Aaron’s sons, and Moses put some of the blood on the tip of their right ear, and on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the great toes of their right feet: and Moses sprinkled the blood on all sides of the altar.

And he took the fat, and the rump, and all the fat that was on the entrails, and the long lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys, and their fat, and the right shoulder:

Out of the basket of unleavened bread that was before the LORD, he took one unleavened cake, and a cake of oiled bread, and one wafer, and put them on the fat, and on the right shoulder:

And he put all on Aaron’s hands, and on his sons’ hands, and waved them for a wave offering before the LORD.

Moses took them from their hands, and burned them on the altar on the burnt offering: they were consecrations for a pleasing aroma: it is an offering made by fire to the LORD.

And Moses took the breast, and waved it for a wave offering before the LORD: it was Moses’ portion from the ram of consecration; as the LORD commanded.

Moses took some of the anointing oil, and of the blood which was on the altar, and sprinkled it on Aaron, and on his garments, and on his sons, and on his sons’ garments with him; and sanctified Aaron, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons’ garments.

And Moses said to Aaron and to his sons “Boil the flesh at the door of the tent of meeting: and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket of consecrations, as I commanded, saying, ‘Aaron and his sons shall eat it.’

What remains of the flesh and of the bread you shall burn with fire.

And you shall not go out of the door of the tent of meeting for seven days, until the days of your consecration have ended: for it will take seven days to ordain you.

The LORD has commanded what has to be done today to make an atonement for you.

Therefore you shall abide at the door of the tent of meeting day and night for seven days, and keep the charge of the LORD so that you do not die: for so I am commanded.”

So Aaron and his sons did all things which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.
