Read the Bible: Leviticus 22

I’ve said before that God is very detailed oriented when prescribing the Law. Here are 33 more verses which prove that point. What we can learn from this chapter is that God is holy and he is the one who sanctifies his people; although you probably already knew that. If you are looking for a fun fact, the phrase “I am the LORD” appears in this chapter seven times.

Leviticus 22

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

“Speak to Aaron and to his sons; tell them to be careful with the holy things of the children of Israel, that they do not profane my holy name in those things which they hallow to me: I am the LORD.

Say to them ‘Anyone of your descendants among your generations, that goes to the holy things, which the children of Israel consecrate to the LORD, while he is unclean, that person shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD.

Any man who is descended from Aaron is a leper, or has a discharge; he shall not eat of the holy things until he is clean. And whoever touches any thing that is unclean by the dead, or a man with an emission of semen;

Or whoever touches any creeping thing that makes him unclean, or any person who makes him unclean,

The person who has touched any such shall be unclean until evening, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he wash his flesh with water.

And when the sun is down, he shall be clean, and afterward may eat of the holy things; because it is his food.

That which dies of itself, or is torn by animals, he shall not eat to defile himself with it; I am the LORD.

They shall keep my rules, lest they bear sin for it, and die if they profane it: I the LORD do sanctify them.

No stranger shall eat of the holy things: a foreign guest of the priest, or a hired servant, shall not eat  the holy things.

But if the priest buys a person with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house: they shall eat his food.

If the priest’s daughter is married to a stranger, she may not eat of an offering of the holy things.

But if the priest’s daughter be a widow, or divorced, and have no child, and returns to her father’s house, as in her youth, she shall eat her father’s food: but no stranger shall eat. .

And if a man unknowingly eats of the holy things, then he shall add a fifth part to it, and shall repay the priest the holy things.

They shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer to the LORD;

Or allow them to eat their holy things and bear the guilt of their sin: for I the LORD do sanctify them.’”

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

“Speak to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel, and say to them “Anyone of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, that presents his offering for his vows, and for all his freewill offerings, which they will offer to the LORD for a burnt offering;

You shall offer at your own will a male without blemish, of the cattle, the sheep, or the goats.

But any that has a blemish, you shall not offer: for it shall not be acceptable for you.

And whoever offeres a sacrifice of peace offerings to the LORD to accomplish his vow, or a freewill offering in cattle or sheep, it must be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish in it.

Blind, broken, maimed, having a sore, rash, or scabbed, you shall not offer these to the LORD, nor make an offering by fire of them on the altar to the LORD.

A bull or a lamb that has any deformity or missing parts, that you may offer for a freewill offering; but for a vow it shall not be accepted.

You shall not offer to the LORD that which is bruised, crushed, broken, or cut; neither shall you make any offering of such in your land.

Neither you nor a stranger are to offer your God food from any of these animals; because their corruption is in them, and blemishes are in them: they shall not be accepted for you.’”

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

When a bull, sheep, or goat is born, then it shall be with its mother for seven days; and from the eighth day it shall be accepted for an offering made by fire to the LORD.

You shall not kill a cow or ewe and her young on the same day.

And when you offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the LORD, offer it of your own will.

On the same day it shall be completely eaten; do not leave any of it until the next day: I am the LORD.

Therefore you shall keep my commandments, and do them: I am the LORD.

Do not profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallows you

who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD.
