Read the Bible: Exodus 12

The Passover is both a single event in the history of Israel and an annual feast in remembrance of that event. Pharaoh is going to let the children of Israel go – they will be made to leave quickly as a matter of fact – but he will change his mind one more time and try to get them back.

Exodus 12

The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying,

Read the Bible: Exodus 11

This chapter is really short, it’s just God declaring what will happen next. In chapter 12 he will give instructions for the first Passover, the firstborn in all of Egypt will die, the Hebrews will be driven out, and God will institute the annual Passover feast. That chapter is not short.

Exodus 11

The Lord said to Moses “I will bring one plague more on Pharaoh, and on Egypt; afterwards he will let you go from here: and when he lets you go he will surely drive you out from here.

Read the Bible: Exodus 10

This will be the eighth and ninth plagues, locusts and then darkness. After the ninth plague, Moses is told by Pharaoh that he better not see him again.

Exodus 10

The Lord said to Moses “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might perform these signs of mine before him:

Read the Bible: Exodus 9

The fifth, sixth and seventh plagues are in this chapter, specifically the death of livestock, boils on man and beast and hail. Hail mixed with fire that cuts down everything in the field. The kind of hail that had never been seen in Egypt since it became a nation. And we have three plagues to go yet. It’s gonna get ugly.

Exodus 9

Then the Lord said to Moses “Go in to Pharaoh and tell him ‘This is what the LORD God of the Hebrews says ‘Let my people go, that they may serve me.

Read the Bible: Exodus 8

Water turning to blood was the first plague we saw in Exodus 7. In this chapter we will see plagues two, three and four. We said the plagues would gradually get worse. Beginning with the plague of flies only the Egyptians are affected, no one in the land of Goshen.

Exodus 8

The Lord spoke to Moses “Go to Pharaoh and say to him ‘This is what the LORD says, “Let my people go, that they may serve me.

Read the Bible: Exodus 7

Exodus 7 is exciting stuff. There is a side note in the text about Moses’s age that reminded me to talk about the timeline of his life. Then Moses and Aaron appear before Pharaoh and thrown down. Aaron literally “throws down” his staff and it becomes a serpent. The magicians of Egypt can do the same thing but it’s not as cool as what Aaron’s staff does.

Exodus 7

The Lord said to Moses “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.

Sunrise Service – Jeremy Noffsanger preached at the Calhoun City Park as part of a 7 a.m. worship service on Easter morning. I preached at the same service last year, in a public place where a handful of churches meet together for a few songs, prayers and a short message. I may know a little bit about a lot things but my personal experience with Christian worship is limited to the southeast United States. I grew up with sunrise service being a regular part of the Easter experience but I wondered if it was the same everywhere. According to History.com some churches during the Protestant Reformation retained the Christian calendar while others rejected Easter celebrations. It was not until the late 19th or early 20th century that some Protestants, such as Baptists, started to reclaim the sunrise service traditions.

Read the Bible: Exodus 6

God repeats some promises to Moses about his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and explains he has heard the children of Israel’s outcry and will keep his promises. He tells Moses they knew him as God Almighty but he did not tell them his name. Here is a link to a Read the Bible bonus feature on The LORD that I mention in the discussion.

Exodus 6

Then the LORD said to Moses “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh: for by my strong hand he will let them go, and because of my strong hand he will drive them out of his land.”

Read the Bible: Exodus 5

Moses and Aaron appear before Pharaoh and ask him to let them go into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD God. Pharaoh does not let them go but rather increases their work load. The Hebrews are mad at Moses, the Egyptians are mad at Moses, he cries out to God that they are worse off than before; and he has no idea, God is just getting warmed up.

Exodus 5

Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh “This is what the LORD God of Israel says: ‘Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.’”

Checking Boxes

I had a thought the other day and even though I was driving, I was nearly to my destination so I was able to write it down when I stopped. The ADHD I’ve always had, combined with turning 50 in a few months, means if I don’t write it down it either never happened or it’s never going to, depending on the situation.
