We should thank the Area 51 Raid organizers for all the memes (see here and here). It started as a joke back in June, when college student Matty Roberts created a Facebook event. “Storm Area 51, they can’t stop all of us” the title suggested. The event posting went viral and some 2 million people RSVP’d prompting a very real response from the US Air Force. Roberts quit laughing when FBI agents showed up at his door. In the end, the event was re-imagined as a music festival which turned into three different competing music festivals. Local towns near the base, which of course don’t amount to much which is the very reason it is located there, became concerned about thousands of tourists and festival goers showing up. Rachel, NV, has a population of 50 and only 1 hotel.

It hasn’t been but a week or two since Hurricane Dorian skirted the east coast after decimated the Bahamas. Another tropical system has been threatening to produce a named storm all week and Tropical Storm Humberto formed last night near the Bahamas. Tropical force winds extend 90 miles out from the center which will pass within 40 miles of the northeast Bahama islands. The latest projections show it turning away from Florida and out to sea. I thought we would begin this week with a picture of Steve Hartman, back when he was the pastor of Windsor Spring Baptist Church in Hephzibah, GA.  Hephzibah was the wife of Hezekiah in 2nd Kings 21. Hephzibah, GA, is a suburb of Augusta near the Georgia-South Carolina state line. I became aware of the Popeye’s vs. Chick-fil-A sandwich rivalry last Saturday. It was too late to make the Satur-deja Vu but the memes were fun while it lasted. So what really happened? Popeye’s did not run out of chicken. They had set up a line of supply they thought would satisfy demand, which they considered optimistic, through the end of September. The public response to the social media war surpassed all expectations and they were not prepared to meet that kind of demand. They never ran out of chicken but lines were long, shortages were widespread, and employees were working long hours and overtime in every location. Been under the weather the latter half of this week. Did not get everything published I would like but have some notes that I will be working into posts soon, hopefully. Can’t say for sure if this post will be any good but I’d rather try than not try. Pray for my congregation as I still hope to preach in the morning.

Mac & Cheese is a permanent addition to the Chick-fil-A menu. I think it’s very similar to KFC and Captain D’s if you are familiar with those. It reminds me of baked in the oven at home and is nothing like Kraft Dinner. It is the side I didn’t know I was missing. Continue reading →

Satur-deja Vu is not just a review. It also gives me a chance to drop in some things I couldn’t find a place for, and perhaps mention a topic that will not be getting its own post for whatever reason. It lets us take inventory. I used to call My Other Blog “the bottom file cabinet draw of the blogosphere.” Saturday is when we organize the file cabinet.

Have I seen this before? I’ve been struggling with a name for our weekend review post and was somewhat resigned to the fact that Saturday Doubletake was as good as it was going to get. My wife suggested Deja vu a couple of weeks ago and last night I combined the two words together: Satur-deja vu. I think it’s clever, imaginative, and combines the carefree relaxed nature of Saturday afternoon with the French expression deja vu which literally means “already seen.” Teresa loved it and no one else has given me any input or suggestions up to this point. So let’s reflect on the week that was, wrap up any unfinished business, and maybe throw in a fun bit or two.
