Pastor Shane Parrot of Heritage Baptist Church led one of the prayers at AdventHealth Gordon’s public gathering on the National Day of Prayer. As mentioned in Thursday morning’s Read the Bible podcast, I was at the Rome Area Prayer Breakfast to hear Eric Metaxas and this event in Calhoun at noon. Living the Christian life the right way involves a balance of boldness and meekness. Meeting together in a public place that is highly visible is a way to stand up for what we believe in but bowing in prayer as we ask God for anything is a confession that he can and we can’t.

Sunrise Service – Jeremy Noffsanger preached at the Calhoun City Park as part of a 7 a.m. worship service on Easter morning. I preached at the same service last year, in a public place where a handful of churches meet together for a few songs, prayers and a short message. I may know a little bit about a lot things but my personal experience with Christian worship is limited to the southeast United States. I grew up with sunrise service being a regular part of the Easter experience but I wondered if it was the same everywhere. According to History.com some churches during the Protestant Reformation retained the Christian calendar while others rejected Easter celebrations. It was not until the late 19th or early 20th century that some Protestants, such as Baptists, started to reclaim the sunrise service traditions.

Today is Holy Saturday or perhaps you know it as Black Saturday. There are events that took place each day of Holy Week leading up to the crucifixion. Nothing happens today; Jesus rested in the grave. After spending a day thinking about the scourging, the crown of thorns and Jesus crying out as he yielded up his spirit, take this day to reflect. It’s a lot of action, loud words, crying… rest as Jesus rested. Tomorrow we celebrate.

Wild Game Supper – I wish I could identify everything in this picture. The truth is, by the time I sat down I had already forgotten some of the details. I know that I didn’t pick up the deer sliders because I had them last year, and I had deer in my freezer (that I actually made into chili on Thursday). In the cup is duck gumbo. On the plate, in addition to coleslaw and baked beans, is deer meatloaf, roast turkey and deer poppers; that’s roasted deer meat inside of a jalapeno pepper wrapped in bacon. There are a couple of things I don’t remember the specifics of; there is some kind of wild game in that quesadilla but I don’t remember what.

If you are unfamiliar with the Holy Nope, it’s basically Pastor Austin Keeler calling out foolishness on social media. I mean, he produces TikTok, YouTube Shorts and FB Reels that usually feature a short clip of someone on social offering up heresy or acting foolish in church. He uses comedy to draw attention to the fact the he is very serious about identifying the truth of scripture. He is pretty harsh on charismatics, women pastors and he is a hard line Calvinist. Which brings me to April Fools Day.

We continue to make tweaks to the Read the Bible series of posts. By the time we finish Genesis, I hope we have the design elements of the posts, the quality of the audio – maybe find a good place to record – everything just right. We started Happy Monday in 2012 and that took a little while to find itself. Here is the latest post, Genesis 28, and I think we’ve just about got it. If anyone comes along later and starts at Genesis 1, that will be a fun trip.

I know it’s a meme. Sometimes you can look at a meme, appreciate the humor, and then still say some serious things that relate to the topic. It doesn’t mean you didn’t get the joke; it just means the joke made you think.

Jesus did all sorts of things he wasn’t “supposed” to do. He associated with women, tax collectors, touched lepers, ate without washing his hands, FORGAVE people of their sins and picked grain on the Sabbath. He even healed on the Sabbath day! And then when they crucified him, rolled a stone in front of the tomb and set guards, that rascal didn’t even stay in there!!!

Did you see the blood moon last night? I never doubted the forecast. And I believe Jesus is coming back. But the two are not related; there will be no warning. No one knows the day or the hour, not even the angels in heaven nor Jesus himself. Anyone that tells you they know is a liar. Jesus will return, according to his own words, when no one expects. So don’t wait to get ready, but if you are ready then fine, stay that way.

Before I joined Facebook, before Twitter existed, there was WordPress. In 17 years I have put up 2,025 posts, logged 2,593 comments and as of Friday evening have 800,558 views. (If you included stats from My Other Blog, which preceded The Master’s Table by a couple of months, that adds another 465,835 views). Blogging is not what it used to be; in 2012 I had over 124,000 just that year alone. Like I say, Facebook and YouTube were relatively new and there was no Twitter, FB Reels, TikTok or Instagram yet. People were so bored they read stuff that I wrote!

Pictured above in a late 60’s Martin N-20. Martin is best known for their Dreadnought line of guitars, a term borrowed from ship building which denotes the full size, such as the D-28 or D-35. The N-20 is a classical guitar made for nylon strings. There is no pick guard as the strings are nylon and meant for finger picking. The N-20 was never a big seller with Martin producing less than 300 per year at the height of its popularity. The line ended production in 1992. So why would anyone even care?
