Read the Bible: Numbers 4

This chapter continues numbering the families of the Levites and assigns responsibilities for each group in transporting the tabernacle and everything involved in that process. It has to be done carefully and properly or people will die.

Numbers 4

The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:

Read the Bible: Numbers 3

Here is the link to the diagram showing where the tribes of the Children of Israel were to pitch their tents in relation to the tabernacle. It got kind of buried in the description yesterday for our friends listening on Spotify. If you are on The Master’s Table website it appears again at the bottom of this post because today we are talking about the sons of Levi and the positions of those families.

Numbers 3

These are also the generations of Aaron and Moses on the day that the LORD spoke with Moses in mount Sinai.

Read the Bible: Numbers 2

Yesterday we numbered all the men of Israel from 20 years and up that were able to go to war. Today we will plot where each tribe makes camp, always keeping the tabernacle at the center, and the order in which each breaks camp and sets out.

Numbers 2

The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:

Read the Bible: Numbers 1

We are starting the book of Numbers. It’s not all numbers but the book does begin with a headcount of the armies of Israel. If we do not skip a day, we will finish during the first week of September. I would like to say September 2nd but I know there will be at least one chapter we split in half.

Numbers 1

The LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying:

Read the Bible: Leviticus 27

This chapter is about symbolically dedicating a person, animal or piece of property to the LORD. There is some awkward, at least by our standards, discussion of what a person is worth but the real point is that anything dedicated to the LORD is holy.

Leviticus 27

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

Satur-deja Vu

We missed a deja vu post but these celebrity deaths are just in the past week. Chuck Mangione passed this week as well, someone will mention it if I don’t. So far in the first half of 2025 we have also lost Bob Uecker, Gene Hackman, Roberta Flack, George Foreman, Val Kilmer, Ruth Buzzi, George Wendt, Phil Robertson, Sly Stone, Brian Wilson, Connie Francis and Pope Francis (no relation on those last two). There have been others but those are the names I would expect most people to recognize. You may not recognize the name Martha Knighton but chances are you have seen her before in something.

Read the Bible: Leviticus 26

This chapter lists the blessings for obedience and the punishments for disobedience. It really is just that simple. And you might think that after all the children of Israel had seen God do, in Egypt and at Mount Sinai, that disobedience would be practically unheard of.

Leviticus 26

“You shall not make idols or graven images, neither stand up pillars, nor set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down to it: for I am the LORD your God.

Read the Bible: Leviticus 25

This is a long chapter but it boils down to: Give the land a Sabbath rest every seventh year; and a hard reset every 50 years that God calls the year of Jubilee. The land and the people in it belong to the LORD.

Leviticus 25

The LORD spake to Moses on mount Sinai, saying:

Read the Bible: Leviticus 24

Contribution of pure olive oil to keep the lamps burning; and then a crime followed by an arrest and a judgement. There are no lengthy trials with automatic appeals in the camp of Israel. God’s judgement is swift.

Leviticus 24

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:
