Read the Bible: Leviticus 7

Laws about making the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the guilt offering, the ordination offering and the peace offering. The portion that is given to the priests is described and we’ll recap why that is in the discussion.

Leviticus 7

“This is the law of the guilt offering: it is most holy.

Read the Bible: Leviticus 6

A little bit of case law again but more instructions for the priests than anything else.

Leviticus 6

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

100 Days Streak – There was a time I lived in envy of the guys that posted every day. For years it was something I did not think I could ever do. There was also a time I could not preach a series of sermons but now those are my favorites. I spent nine months preaching through Romans. Maybe it’s the difference between being 35 and 50. Of course it’s all because of the Read the Bible series and some days it’s not easy. You can hear fireworks in the background as I recorded Leviticus 5 last night. I was able to edit out most of it out. What got cut sounds like I’m embedded with a sniper team somewhere taking fire.

Read the Bible: Leviticus 5

What happens if you break a law and are not even aware you broke one? What if you know that you are guilty but cannon afford what you need to bring to the priest for atonement? Some of the things we will encounter are examples of case law. Because it happened at least once to somebody, there is a law to deal with that particular case.

Leviticus 5

“If a person sins when he is a witness and does not testify when called, then he shall bear the guilt of his sin;

Read the Bible: Leviticus 4

There were different types of offerings and sacrifices made for other reasons, but animal sacrifices made for atonement are the ones that kept the priests busy. This is the very beginning of “if this happens, do this” that is prescribed by God in the Law.

Leviticus 4

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

Read the Bible: Matthew Bloopers

For a few moments last night I thought I had deleted this file so it’s time to post it before something bad happens to it. Here’s the thing: when I first started recording Genesis, I didn’t know what I was doing. There were a lot of mistakes and some of them were funny. The process has gotten better and when there are errors they are not the kind that used to happen and I don’t react as much. I have learned to just reread the verse, it will be an easy fix in post. So I may quit saving the “blooper reel” and sharing them because they not as entertaining as they used to be. As always, you tell me. I want to publish a finished product with high production value. At the same time I do not want to think of myself more highly than I ought to think, so maybe these keep me humble.

Read the Bible: Leviticus 3

We have been looking at the instructions for making various types of offerings. Chp 1 was burnt offerings, chp 2 was grain offerings; this chapter is about fellowship or peace offerings and chp 4 will be sin offerings. That chapter will be a little more involved than the others leading up to it.

Leviticus 3

“If the offering is a sacrifice of peace offering, from the herd, male or female, he shall offer one without blemish before the LORD.

Read the Bible: Leviticus 2

Chapter 1 was about meat offerings, chapter 2 is about grain offerings. Grain offerings had to be unleavened (no yeast) and contain no honey, but they had to be seasoned with salt. God wants carbs, gluten and salt, that’s the takeaway from Leviticus 2.

Leviticus 2

“When anyone offers a grain offering to the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour and he shall pour oil on it, and put frankincense on it:

Read the Bible: Leviticus 1

We are going to keep switching back and forth between Old and New Testament books as we read through the Bible. Most of the Bible is Old Testament and while it is all valuable, you may find parts of it more useful than others. I offer a lot of discussion about Leviticus in general but have very little say about this chapter in particular after the reading.

Here is a link to the Exodus episodes on The Master’s Table, before we were on Spotify, Amazon Music, Audible and iHeart Radio. You should be able to find the Genesis posts once you’re on the website.

Leviticus 1

The LORD called Moses, and spoke to him out of the tent of meeting, saying:
