I began reading Our Daily Bread in print many years ago. Maybe not before the internet but before blogging caught on and social media became a thing. We’ve been linking the Our Daily Bread daily devotional (in the left-hand sidebar) for a few years now and occasionally share images and recommend special products and promotions.

Anson Hugh Laytner is a retired Jewish rabbi. One’s initial reaction might be “This is not Christian theology.” Firstly, Laytner anticipates a Jewish and Christian audience. He describes himself as a skeptical but spiritual person thus the intended audience may go beyond Christian or Jewish to include anyone struggling with questions and looking for answers. More to the point in this context, Christian theology grew out of Hebrew history, ritual, literature and Jewish theology in the first century. Laytner is aware of the relationship. As he begins a section describing Radical Monotheism he mentions the Tanakh and then inserts in parenthesis “the Jewish Bible, similar to the Christian Old Testament.” The search for meaning and understanding is practically universal among people everywhere and Laytner’s process may benefit any reader wrestling with the same issues. 
The Hallmark Channels are showing nothing but Christmas movies, decorations have started appearing… I don’t even fight that battle anymore. I tried and lost. Sirius XM has started their Holly station on channel 65. Holly plays mostly modern Christmas pop but they throw in well known tunes by Elvis, Johnny Mathis and Andy Williams as well. As we get closer to Christmas more seasonal channels will be added, such as traditional, religious and even a Hallmark Christmas radio channel.
This was not a good week for Buffalo Wild Wings. Ryan Baldera, age 32, died as a result of chemical exposure after two cleaners were mixed together in Burlington, Massachusetts. Another eight employees and two customers were treated at a local hospital. Earlier in the week at a location in Illinois, a large party was asked to move to another section of the restaurant because a “regular customer” came in that was racist and did not want to sit “next to black people.” All the employees involved in the incident have been let go and the customer has been banned for life from all Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants. 
They say you have to pick your battles. For those of you that begin Halloween on September 1st and Christmas on November 1st, I choose not to fight that battle. I just quietly look the other way. That bell cannot be unrung. I want to address something different and perhaps I have stumbled onto something brilliant.
