Lessons from Noah and Lot

This will be our second discussion on 2nd Peter 2. And no, I didn’t make a mistake. Noah and Lot are used to represent times that God was able to save even during a time of judgement. God knows those that are his and he is able to save the just and punish the wicked. Continue reading →

God is Willing and Able

There is a lot to learn from reading the Bible but a few predominant themes run through the whole book. One lesson we learn that is reinforced many times is that God knows what he’s doing.

…the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment… 2 Peter 2:9

Kevin & Taylor is a morning radio show on Atlanta’s 104.7 The Fish. CJ and Joy are afternoon hosts on Way FM. Both have really stepped up their game on Facebook so they do for my weekdays what I try to do for others on Monday mornings. We’re all in this together. This is Happy Monday #344. MLB Postseason – That’s Adam Duvall making his home run trot that put the Braves up 3-0 last night. The Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals are split one game each in their best of 5 National League Division Series. The Nationals and Dodgers are also evenly split in the other NLDS; meanwhile in the American League the Yankees took game one over the Twins and Astros beat the Rays. Continue reading →

Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

I sometimes puzzle over statements people make such as looking for God. It’s our nature to make things more complicated than they are or should be. God is not hiding. He has not put up boundaries and obstacles so that only a few are able to succeed. The Hunger Games, the Labyrinth, Survivor, American Ninja Warrior; the Kingdom of God is not like any of those things. The Apostle Paul, speaking to a Greco-Roman audience, often made analogies to the sporting world and athletic competition. He talks about competing according to the rules in order to not be disqualified (2 Timothy 2:5) and to the Philippians he says that he presses forward toward the prize (Philippians 3:13-14). The prize is Jesus and he wants you to win!  Continue reading →

The Christian Index Visits Heritage Baptist

Screenshot 2019-10-01 at 10.26.24 AMThe Christian Index, our Georgia Baptist newspaper, has an article today about Heritage Baptist Church. The reconstruction at Notre Dame is being followed around the world; Heritage is local to my home town of Calhoun, GA. Heritage Baptist is an active partner in the Gordon Memorial Baptist Association. I may have not mentioned it on this blog but friends IRL and on Facebook know that the sudden and expected death of Brent Davis rattled me a bit. Continue reading →

CoffeeLove_1015-894x372

September 29th each year is National Coffee Day. Did you get your free cup or other incentive yesterday? Sunday morning church and coffee often go hand in hand and around here coffee gets respect and appreciation every day of the year. We once had a special coffee drinker’s edition of Happy Monday.

This is Happy Monday #343. True story, the last two have been numbered wrong. I just noticed this morning and I spend more time look at these things than anybody. Okay, we’re off like a herd of turtles. Continue reading →

Screenshot_20190922-110200_GalleryIt’s fall y’all! Monday was the first day of autumn so I will now officially quit complaining about pumpkin spice, falling leaves and s’mores posts on Facebook and Twitter. My wife finished crocheting my Dr Who scarf just in time. (Tom Baker, the fourth Doctor, Google it.) It’s still in the 90’s here so it’s more fashion statement that useful right now. Btw, the best thing about fall is candy corn. Shout out to the haters! Continue reading →

I Just Want My Blessing

A post from guest blogger Jimmy Humphrey.

I think we could all agree that we want to live lives that feel “blessed.”

We want to feel that God’s fortune shines upon our lives. We want to feel favored. We want to feel like we lack for nothing.

Yet, many of us do not in fact feel that way. Continue reading →

Happy Monday

Okay, not everybody watches college football and UGA fans are probably limited to the southeastern United States. But stay with me a minute: ESPN Game Day was in Athens Saturday for the cross conference Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Georgia Bulldogs game. A Georgia fan brought a picture of Martin Luther. Someone was awake in history class.

This is Happy Monday #142. Continue reading →
