Read the Bible: Numbers 17

There are three things kept in the ark of the covenant/ ark of testimony. The 10 commandments written on stone tablets, a jar with an omer of manna, and Aaron’s staff. Aaron’s staff is not actually in the ark, but kept with it in order to remind the Israelites who God has chosen to do his work. Here is that story.

Read the Bible: Exodus 37

In Exodus 25, Moses is given the instructions for making the ark of testimony as well as the table and lampstand that will be in the Holy Place. In this chapter those things are put together and the details of materials and measurements are repeated.

Read the Bible: Exodus 25

Chapter 25 is the beginning of instructions; nothing is built until after all the instructions have been given, which will take a few chapters. Pictured above is one of many artist conceptions of how the ark of the covenant, or ark of the testimony, may have looked. (Notice that is not the same Bible picture I’ve used since March 1st.) The only problem with that image is the height. It’s width and height should be the same, approximately 27 inches. or a little more than two feet. If you have seen Raiders of the Lost Ark that’s a pretty good representation; just don’t buy into all the theology you are presented.
