The Master’s Table Facebook Page

I’m having a bit of a tiff with Facebook. It’s probably not enough to make me give it up for good but at this time I am unable to post links to this blog. I always link new blogs on the Mater’s Table Facebook page and occasionally, though not very often, link from my personal Facebook profile. I was hoping to spread a little Happy Monday cheer but Facebook rejected the post and claimed it violated their community standards on spam. They also removed all links to this blog from the Master’s Table FB page. That page has 178 followers. It was created for several reasons but perhaps the biggest thing at the time was so that I could post links each time a new blog post was up without constantly irritating my Facebook friends. Every new blog post was linked from the FB page and like I say only occasionally from my own profile. Currently the only links on the Master’s Table FB page are to Paul Wilkinson’s Wednesday Connect posts. Continue reading →

Well this snuck up on me. In past years I’ve created whole retrospectives, shared stats, thanked some blog friends, etc. Thank you WordPress for the reminder!

2012 in Review

WordPress, the blog platform used to produce and host The Master’s Table, creates a year in review infographic for each user.  Stats include the most read post, most commented on post, most active commenter, etc.  Click the link at the bottom of this post to view the full report.

Here’s an excerpt:

19,000 people fit into the new Barclays Center to see Jay-Z perform. This blog was viewed about 120,000 times in 2012. If it were a concert at the Barclays Center, it would take about 6 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Blogversary

The Master’s Table turns four!  Some call it a birthday, I like to think of it as an anniversary of blogging.  Blog + anniversary = blogversary.

There have been some good times and bad, so as we celebrate we need to remember some people as well.  I blog because of Michael Spencer.  The post linked explains how and why.  Before I ever read Internet Monk I worked with Michael every day in real life.

2010 was a rough year.  Michael passed in April, my father Lewis Bunch lost his short battle with melanoma in June.  If you read the post, make sure to follow the link there for pictures.

It hasn’t all been bad news.  Equal Time is about being blessed, and was written shortly after our daughter Johannah was born.  The picture of our family on the About page was taken last Easter.  She turned two in August.

The articles linked above are very personal.  Most of the posts at The Master’s Table have been about sharing the Gospel and following the examples left by Jesus.  We have also debated the value of science and argued with the occasional atheist.  I’ve made a few Christian blog friends over the years, even a couple in Israel and Australia.  I try not to obsess over stats, but here’s a few as we celebrate:

4 years, 457 posts, 1,249 comments.  Total views = 355,152.

This blog started out as Clark Bunch’s Weblog.  Everything from March and April moved to The Master’s Table in May of 2008.  This post explains the creation of My Other Blog.  I never meant to have two, but there’s also 564 posts and another 330,000+ views over there.

Here’s to another year.  Long live the blog.

Welcome to WordPress MBC

We live in what is called the Information Age.  Just one generation ago, Americans found out about what happened in the world around them by tuning in to a 30 minute televised news broadcast at 6:30 each evening.  Walter Cronkite, who only recently passed away, was the very first news anchor.  Today, with broadband mobile devices and public access to high speed Internet, we are never more than a few seconds removed from breaking news that happens anywhere on the globe.  There are of course those people that Tweet each individual item they put into their shopping cart, resulting in what the kids call TMI (too much information).

The point is that any data can be accessed instantaneously, and to overlook the potential to share the Gospel would be foolish.  I wish to welcome Manchester Baptist Church in Manchester, KY to WordPress. Continue reading →

Sneaky Spammers, and What to do About Them

spamI don’t know why, but an article I wrote back in October about Christopher Columbus has been getting a lot of views lately.  It seemed relevant to me back on Columbus Day, but for some reason it has become very popular just in the last couple of weeks.  The other day I got a comment about how the article was bullcrap, and that simply using Google could straighten me out.  I responded with in my usual tactful manner (lol) and waited to see what happened next.  Continue reading →

How to WordPress

Everyday new people begin to use WordPress for the first time.  Since I joined in March the number of WordPress blogs has gone from 2.5 to 3.6 million.  I imagine there are also those users who have used WordPress for a while now, but do not take advantage of all the features.  I would like to share a few tips and tricks that have made my use of WordPress more useful and enjoyable.  Continue reading →
